The best thing about being here,
Is that there has been something special,
Every single week.
Last week was the workshop at Nybro,
In collaboration with a design school.
The result was not all brilliant,
But it was an experience nevertheless.
Brief -
Put 4 modules of 6mx6m space together,
Form an entrance lobby into a high-tech company.
The workshop title was 'Integrated Lighting',
But it seemed to be like many saw it superficially,
As 'recessed lighting' or 'hidden lights',
Which is frustrating from an architecture point of view.
Alot of smoke and weak conceptual thinking.
Eg. My group's sound tech company.
Wave concept translated to organic walls.
Uh, how about the lighting concept?
We made no waves.
But some groups really got great concepts,
Even though it might seem a little out of the world.
Crit panel is very mild and nice,
It makes me feel like everyone from NUS is a mean bitch.
Have heard that this is just Swedish culture,
The part about being polite and nice.
There was also a glassmill in school,
Where we saw the shi fu in action,
Making little glass animals in 60 seconds.
The pictures from the digital camera,
Turned out better than expected.
Considering I can't see the LCD,
It is like back to the old days,
Using those point and shoot cameras.
Uli and I went to Stockholm on Sunday,
And saw some really great stuff at the market.
Old working Canon AF-1 with lens and flash for 950sek.
Those handheld games I played in primary school.
So retro!
We had a presentation yesterday,
To say we made a "lighting machine",
Might be a little overdoing it
(despite it being our project title),
But there are many cool luminaire designs.
A personal favourite was Uli + Mieke's lift light.
Then we had another BBQ in the evening,
To mark the end of summer,
And to welcome autumn.
Plucked apples and plums from tress,
For the first time in my life.
It is so wonderful,
To have housemates that cook well.
Made merry till 5am in the morning.
Today I'm off to London tonight,
And I can't wait to eat duck rice.
