Viva Klnia
Viva Klnia
Sounds of the Frankfurt continue to ring in my head.
Arrived at Frankfurt Haupbahnhof at 1ish,
On the cold Saturday afternoon,
After 2 long bus trips and a short flight.
Took at walk along Kaiserstrasse to the R?mer,
Passing some museums along the way.
Also spotted the famous buildings,
Including KPF's, Foster's, & Deutsche Bank's twin towers.
Debit & Credit, they were called.
Loved the R?mer for the 15th century houses,
And also the festive mood injected.
Cannons were fired as German songs blasted.
Suddenly I could imagine WWII,
And I really thought about world peace.
Met Su-lin, Sonja & Daniel back at the main train station,
And we proceeded for a short walk to the R?mer,
Then along the Maine River.
It was a lovely evening with a pinkish orange sunset,
And surreal looking barren trees lining the boulevard.
Sonja took us to a traditional German bar for dinner,
Where we had this tasty apple wine.
This French girl, Claire, randomly ordered a sausage dish,
And ended up with wobbly sausages.
One of them was the infamous black sausage,
Which was made from animal blood.
*twitch*
Headed to K?ln on Sunday morning,
With Su-lin, Sonja, Daniel & another Daniel.
On the train to K?ln,
We had the first taste of the German festive mood.
Trolleys of beer, food, etc.,
Everyone dressed up in fancy party costumes,
Singing German drinking songs.
As Daniel2 put on a red nose & a cap,
I felt too normal.
When we arrived at K?ln,
Henning, Sebastian & Philip,
Who were dressed in surgery costumes,
Were already waiting for us,
In front of the famous cathedral,
Which turned out taller than I expected.
Armed with a large bottle of Kaiser beer each,
We headed towards the parade ground.
Kramella
Struchia
Aluuf
Su & I rattled words by the sound of it,
To get into the spirit of things.
It paid off,
For we went with nothing,
But returned to Frankfurt,
With bags of sweets & flowers,
Thrown at us by the parade folks,
And off the floats that passed.
Interesting enough,
Some people gave out things like,
Dishwashing sponges, teabags & toothbrushes!
Went shopping the next day,
After watching a brief snowfall from Sonja's kitchen.
Bought a trenchcoat despite it being not perfect.
At least it was black.
Went ice-skating in the evening.
Was reminded of Bin & Gab.
Headed for dinner at a place called
Hannibal,
And met a whole lot of Deutsche Bank folks.
The food & drinks were great,
And the atmosphere was very chill.
Left on early Tuesday morning,
To catch a late morning flight from Hahn to London.
Checking in my luggage because of my Swiss army knife,
Turned out to be a fatal mistake.
The luggage took so long to be delivered at Stansted,
That I missed my National Express bus into London.
Forked out an extra ?10 to get on the next bus,
Only to suffer a very delayed trip.
London is just very bad at reacting to snow & rain.
There was a German girl sitting next to me
Who was nice enough to offer me her chocolate biscuits.
Coincidentally, she visited her friend in London last summer,
When her friend was training under DB.
Although her friend isn't Sonja.
I'm pretty sure Su or Sonja knows her friend.
The world is not that large,
Yet we have only seen so little.
