Reminder to self:
Don't get personal.

I had meant watch Ruth play at Indochine,
But instead we sort of crashed the King Lear private party.
When I saw Sir IM aka Magneto aka Gandolf,
I almost wanted to shout,
"Sir, when you do have free time,
You might want to visit Taboo, Play and Mox and lots more!"

It was a long day,
Signing my new job contract,
Hanging out for many hours with Ruth,
And having "goodbye drinks" at Indochine.

Next entry will be from the other side of the Atlantic!

Negotiations are nerve-wrecking,
Especially when I am not the kind,
Who can get a good bargain at 七埔市场.

It is just so predictable and typical of me,
To go for the job that pays less.
I wonder why.

Excerpt from a mail in my sent box:

Life is dynamic!

I will be going to Montreal, Canada on 21July to 20 August. My friend
from Stockholm school, Louis, has some work for me to do in Quebec
City..... I will be staying with him (his family's house)...

Canada is gonna be really cool!!
It is quite crazy cos I decided to go to Canada like at the start of
this week, and within 5 days I have a ticket!

I just love possibilities and randomness.

Back from my powertrip to KL!

Rushed off to KL on Tuesday,
After a powerlunch with B,
And a job interview with BSLD.
Despite having a bad gut feeling about the interview,
It actually went quite well.

I arrived in KL close to midnight,
To meet Audrey and gang at The Social,
All of them completely pissed.
The place is really lively,
And the Bangsar Village area,
Gave me that Holland Village feeling.
Headed to Enigma with Audrey and Tracey,
For more whiskeys.
I think I am bad with whiskeys.
I always feel queasy and sick,
After only 5 drinks.
Doesn't help that these Malaysians,
Drink helluvalot of whiskey,
And they swear by mixing it with water,
To maintain the purity of its taste.

After a wonderful supper of Bak Kut Teh,
We drove to my home for 2 nights.
Audrey put me up with her god-sister,
Who looks younger and more innocent than she really is.
Wild cat alert!

Despite sleeping at 7am,
I woke up at 11am,
Unable to go back to sleep.
At times like these,
I always think of Celine -
She was the one who educated me,
About how alcohol disrupt sleep patterns.
I went for a haircut in the end,
At this shop called KNG.
The gay director gave me an interesting haircut,
That I wasn't sure if was good for me.
It is short all around,
Except for these little bundle at the back.
"You can tie it into a ponytail."
Well since I was the one who said,
He can pretty much do anything to my hair,
I don't think I should be complaining.
Afterall, it was a very skillful process!

That evening we decided to go for healthy activities.
We (Audrey, Tracey, Rhine and I) had steamboat dinner,
Then headed to KLCC for 'teenager activities'.
We ate ice-cream, took pictures, watched Transformers...
Basically things that people do when they were 16 and dating.
We took so many crazy pictures at random locations,
And behaved like we were still in high school.
We finally gave in to having some alcohol,
When Rhine decided it would be really nice,
To sit down at the public square,
And have white wine, strawberries and cream.
In the end, only Audrey and I went to Enigma (again).
And I discovered I can handle whiskey much better,
If I changed the mixer to Coke.

The next morning I rushed to Bangsar,
As I had wanted to take First Coach back to Novena.
But it was totally full,
Which set me in a panic mood.
Rushing to Puduraya,
I told the lady at the first counter that was empty,
To get me the immediate bus ticket out of KL -
If I didn't leave by noon,
I would have to miss hanging out with Bin!
(And we know that doesn't happen so often,
So it is really important that I make it back in time)
Fortunately it all worked out.
I slept the whole 5 hours on the bus,
And woke up feeling super queasy.

I am inclined to believe,
I have a love-hate relationship with rush.

Shanghai Breakfasts.

One of the worst memories of Shanghai,
Was the horrible breakfasts we had.
We stayed in a hotel in Pu Dong,
And somehow it was impossible to find,
A shop that served noodles before 11am.

After one morning of hotel breakfast,
I decided to venture out for more local cuisine.
Instead of finding noodle shops,
All we found were western-style cafes.

As Mom had to go into the office promptly,
We settled for a shop called 烘培大师 (Careme),
Across the smaller lane from the Yaohan building.
Settling for the best of the undesirables,
I grabbed a ham sandwich and asked for a cold chocolate.
Mom got tuna sandwich and black coffee.
Some moments later,
The waitress served us at our table,
A hot chocolate and a black coffee.
After I told her that I ordered a COLD chocolate,
She went away and came back with the same cup of chocolate,
With a few cubes of ice dumped into the same old cup.
I would have gladly accepted this,
If I was sitting down at a neighbourhood kopitiam.
The problem is that this chocolate,
Is worth about S$4,
A price that deserves better service.
My impression of a cold chocolate,
Is that it ought to be blended in some way,
Not like the Milo that I get at a kopitiam.
She didn't even stir the drink,
Or pour the chocolate into a cold beverage cup!

When the stupid waitress asked us for extra money,
As the cold choc costs more than the hot version.
We questioned the manner she made the drink,
And she self-righteously argued that,
This is the way cold drinks are made in this cafe.
What total bollocks!

The argument went on for about 3 minutes,
Before the cafe manager came and apologised,
And said that she will personally make a fresh drink for me.
The manager eventually came with a chocolate ice blended,
Which looked much better than the horrible one the waitress served.
Even though it tasted diluted,
I am satisfied that the manager made this effort.
As for the waitress,
I hope they fire her,
To save their shop from future embarassment.
Or is there no such word as 'shame' in Careme's dictionary?

Shall complain about Island Coffee another time.
I'm easily tired of being annoyed.

There was an episode of Scrubs,
In which JD mentioned,
How we always seem to be very concern,
About what a person we used to respect think of us.
It was that episode when Dr Cox had a patient,
Who used to be his mentor.

Today I met my Primary school chinese teacher.
We haven't seen each other for 14 years,
Although we kept in touch -
We exchanged emails about 2-3 times each year.

蔡老师 still looks the same!
Perhaps not exactly the same,
But at least she showed no signs of aging.
No wonder people had called her a 老妖.

To my surprise,
There wasn't a single bit of awkwardness,
And we broke into a wonderful flow of conversation,
As smooth as the gin I had in Jac's place yesterday.
(Which was pretty damn smooth)
We parted after spending about 3 hours catching up,
Over long lunch at Genki sushi at Forum.
Of course 14 years couldn't be compressed into 3 hours,
Which is excellent since it means we will meet again soon.

I just can't get enough of good conversations.

Being the procrastinator,
I am not going to write about Shanghai anymore.
Verdict is that I didn't like it so much.
The skies were always hazy (from pollution),
So much so that I can stare at the 5pm sun,
Without it hurting my eye to do so.
The weather was also super hot and humid,
And the traffic is incredibly chaotic.
Let's just say that traffic lights,
Are a total waste of public funds.
I just don't know when I can cross the road.
If I had an unlimited stash of cash,
Maybe Shanghai would be much more enjoyable.
Shanghai is interesting,
But not interesting enough to have me wanting to live there.
I don't think there is much a person can do in Shanghai,
Unless he/she is receiving expatriate renumeration.

The past few non-working days,
Have been catching up with people,
Doing up my CV and procrastinating on folio layout,
Plus reflecting about my little life.
